To celebrate the world’s top female athletes, the Women’s athletics foundation nominated elite group athletes from 20 different sport for individual and squad Sportswoman of the Year awards.

The 2010 finalist have distinguished themselves from the field by their record-breaking, historic or simply amazing athletic public presentation on the world stage.

Fans can balloting for the sportswoman of the Year now through Aug 31, 2010. at www.WomensSportsFoundation.org. The victor will be announced October twelve at the Women’s athletics foundation 31st annual salute to Women in athletics awarding gala in New York City.

Individual Sport

Torah Bright – Snowboarding

• Won the halfpipe event at the World Cup in Schweiz as well as the superpipe event at the Toyota title of the wintertime Dew circuit in February.
• Won gold at the Olympic winter Games in the halfpipe and Ag in the women’s snowboard superpipe at winter X-Games Europe.
• April 2010, Bright was . joint recipient of the ski & snowboard Commonwealth of Australia Athlete of the twelvemonth She also South Korean won Best female Action athletics athlete at the 2010 ESPY’s in July.

Rebecca Bross – Gymnastics

Yu-Na Kim – Figure Skating

• 2009 skate America, Kim placed first again after the short program with the score of 76.28, 17.48 point ahead of her closest competitor, and earned a spot in the thousand Prix Final in December.
• Finished first after the short program in the thousand Prix Final and finished first in the 2009-2010 thousand Prix Rankings.
• In 2010. she won gold at the Olympic winter Games and finished second at the ISU World Championships in March.
• In July she was appointed UNICEF’s International Goodwill Ambassador. Kim is currently ranked No.1 by the International skating trade union .

Kelly Kulick – Bowling

• Five-time member of squad USA and a two-time member of Junior squad USA
• Six-time medallist at the World Youth Championships
• Captured the gold medal at the 1999 pan American game for squad USA

Ai Miyazato- – Golf

• September 2009, finished second at the Samsung World Championship.
• Ended the year ranked No.8 in the Rolex ranking and third on the LPGA functionary money list.
• First participant since 1966 to win? consecutive season-opening events, winning the Honda PTT LPGA Siam in Feb and the Tres mare championship in May 2010.
• Won the ShopRite LPGA classic and tied for third at the LPGA Championships, presented by Wegmans.

Alana Nichols – Paralympic Skiing and wheelchair Basketball

• Was named MVP of the Olympic tournament, voted as the best forward by the tournament directorate, and earned a spot on the medium all-star squad after recording 15 point in five games. Agosta’s IX end broke the record for the most end scored at the Olympic winter Games. Agosta scored an Olympic winter Games lid trick during the match against Sweden.
• Recognized as one of the best player on the ordinal number one ranked Canadian squad by the International Ice field hockey Federation .

Betsey Armstrong – Water Polo

• 2008 Olympic silver medalist
• Goalkeeper for the America Water Marco Polo team, which is currently ranked ordinal number one in the world by the International Swimming federation
• Named Swimming World Magazine’s female Water Polo participant of the Year in 2009
• Made 67 save during the gold medal run at the 2009 FINA World Championships
• Named the top goalkeeper of the FINA World League superintendent final in June 2010

Jennie Finch – Softball

• Two-time Olympic medalist for squad USA, portion the squad earn a gold laurel wreath in 2004 and Ag in 2008 from behind the mound
• Named the 2009 America Softball Female athlete of the Year
• Finished her 10-year career with the America Softball National Team program with a gold laurel wreath at the World Cup of softball in July 2010

Larissa Franca & Juliana Felisberta sylva – beach Volleyball

• November 2009,  named beach volleyball squad of the year by the International Federation of volleyball game game . Felisberta sylva was also named Best Offensive participant and Most Outstanding Player, and Franca was named Best Defensive participant and Best Setter.
• Earned third swatch FIVB world tour gold medal in May 2010. South Korean South Korean won the International beach volleyball game ConocoPhillips thousand sweep in Stavanger, Kingdom of Norway in June, pickings only 43 minutes to beat their third-seeded competitors.

Megan Hodge – Volleyball

• In December 2009, Hodge led Penn State to a perfect 38-0 season record and helped the Nittany Lions win the 2009 NCAA National Championship

Katie O’Donnell – Field Hockey

• Strongest offensive menace in the country in women’s field hockey throughout 2009
• Earned the Honda Collegiate Women athletics awarding for the nation’s top college field hockey participant of 2009
• Currently the start center forward on the United States National squad and a member of the ordinal number one ranked Free State Terrapins

Diana Taurasi – Basketball

• Two-time Olympic champion fron the Athinai 2004 Olympic Games and the capital of Red China 2008 Olympic Games
• Led the capital of Arizona Mercury to the 2009 National championship title
• 2009 Most Valuable participant and WNBA Finals Most valuable Player
• Earned the WNBA Peak Performer awarding for lead the WNBA in scoring.
• Member of the 2009-2012 America Women’s basketball game National squad and the EuroLeague All-Star team

Marta Vieira DA sylva – Soccer

• December 2009,  won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award for the fourth year in a row.

The United States of America renews what has been an excellent rivalry with Sweden during two summer matches on July 13 at Creighton University’s James Douglas Morrison Stadium and on July 17 at Rentschler Field in east capital of Connecticut .

A new women’s association football pub, Our game Magazine, was launched with some fanfare this week Founded by Khaled El-Ahmad. Our game is a women’s soccer mag created by current and past participant for participant and fan all around the world.

With the mission of providing a wealth of women’s association football cognition that “no mag has done before,” Our game is another avenue towards enhancing the popularity of women’s soccer worldwide.

The mag’s title comes from the fact that participant are involved in producing the mag – they love the game, they play it and they want to bring reader closer to it.

El-Ahmad.  the founder of sport government agency Connect World Football, brought the magazine’s concept to Boston Breakers striker Tiffany Weimer, who studied journalism at at Penn State,  and the two decided to go for it with Weimer taking the editorial lead.

The remainder of the penning staff is comprised of current and former players, a number of whom are Weimer’s teammates. Breakers midfielder Leslie John James Osborne is really into fashion so she edits the Fashionably conniption section breaker GK Alyssa Naeher was a kinesiology major and is really interested in the body so she head up the wellness section  We’re guess there will also be some guest editor in chief from the WNT and WPS commentating on issue close to their hearts.

NHRA driver Courtney Force documents her summertime on the drag-racing circuit in an online blog for U.S.A. TODAY.

This week sisters Courtney, Bretagne and Ashley were part of a race car-themed awarding ceremony at the Rio de Janeiro Vista elementary school in orange County. The retarding force automobile driver were asked to help pass out the awarding to the students who had succeeded in the reading competition throughout the yr These reading competition had been theme to racing with the various reading group being their “pit crews.” The gymnasium was even decorated according to theme.

The Force sisters brought some of their our own props – including die-cast cars, fire suits, helmets, and all other safety equipment – and got the chance to speak to the students about the importance of staying in school and how much it could have an impact on their future careers.

It’s always fun to introduce the NHRA to those who are unfamiliar with it and the young lady passed out signed hero cards and presented the students with gold, silver, and bronze medals.

After spending a day with the students, Courtney was back to towing around the parking wad in the funny Car working toward her own personal end in life She then head down the street to Cal State-Fullerton to take an English writing exam she need to pass in order to alum in the fall Her exam theme was on her personal feeling toward group projects. Group projects are kind of like teamwork on a race team and everyone knows there’s no “I” in Team!

Courtney says:

I believe that if everyone on a squad is passionate about what they do and are volition to put forth an effort, then you can achieve your ultimate end Without my crew guy and my family, I wouldn’t have the chance to say we’ve achieved winning a national event. I’ll never forget that day last July when my win light came on in Seattle and they handed me my first Wally. My squad is very important to me and we support each other all through race day.
