forcexNHRA driver Courtney Force documents her summertime on the drag-racing circuit in an online blog for U.S.A. TODAY.

This week sisters Courtney, Bretagne and Ashley were part of a race car-themed awarding ceremony at the Rio de Janeiro Vista elementary school in orange County. The retarding force automobile driver were asked to help pass out the awarding to the students who had succeeded in the reading competition throughout the yr These reading competition had been theme to racing with the various reading group being their “pit crews.” The gymnasium was even decorated according to theme.

The Force sisters brought some of their our own props – including die-cast cars, fire suits, helmets, and all other safety equipment – and got the chance to speak to the students about the importance of staying in school and how much it could have an impact on their future careers.

It’s always fun to introduce the NHRA to those who are unfamiliar with it and the young lady passed out signed hero cards and presented the students with gold, silver, and bronze medals.

After spending a day with the students, Courtney was back to towing around the parking wad in the funny Car working toward her own personal end in life She then head down the street to Cal State-Fullerton to take an English writing exam she need to pass in order to alum in the fall Her exam theme was on her personal feeling toward group projects. Group projects are kind of like teamwork on a race team and everyone knows there’s no “I” in Team!

    Courtney says:

I believe that if everyone on a squad is passionate about what they do and are volition to put forth an effort, then you can achieve your ultimate end Without my crew guy and my family, I wouldn’t have the chance to say we’ve achieved winning a national event. I’ll never forget that day last July when my win light came on in Seattle and they handed me my first Wally. My squad is very important to me and we support each other all through race day.

Stay tuned to find out what else Courtney is up to this summertime and be sure to follow her on chirrup @courtneyforce.

Heidi FryWow, it has been a long time since my last web log entry! Sorry about that.

Since the World Duathlon title in September, I decided to railroad train smarter and race a little less. There is snow where I live so I toughed it out and had a great wintertime of run outside when I could and riding my motorcycle on my indoor trainer. I started 2010 with the capital of Texas ½ endurance contest on valentine 24-hour interval It was my first competitive half and boy was it a blast What made the day was that a some of my family that life in Texas race there as well including my 72 year old uncle! I think I was more excited to watch him finishing than I was for my own race.

After Austin, I went back to training and decided my next race would be the MT Women’s Run, which was today. I had never run a five land stat mi course before but I figure it is just like a 10k…just a land mile shorter right? I got up early this morning and my manager and I made the two hr trek to Billings VII G eighter century other women joined me at the start line today. I stood there and closed my eyes and envisioned my five year old son wearing his shirt that reads, “My mum is fast”. I could do this. The gun went off and I ran quite a bit of the race, with another lady, behind a pace machine That was a first to me and I won’t lie, I felt pretty cool! I ended up second today but I can honestly say that I busted my butt end trying to span the spread to first.

All that substance when it cum to racing is gift it your all, believing that you can and being patient with your training and knowing that next time, I will be faster and maybe next time there won’t be a spread to bridge However, for now, I am perfectly content with two shaver who think that I am a winner and love to wear shirt that vaporing about how “fast” I am. Happy Mothers Day to me and the rest of you out there who wear an invisible ness and regulation your children’s world.

Last week we wrote a post about a record four women vying for a start at this year’s capital of Indiana five hundred And now that number jumps to five.

It’s been 33 years since Janet Woody Woodrow Wilson Woody Woodrow Wilson Woody Woody Guthrie became the first woman to start a race at the famed Brickyard, and for most of that time, Woody Woodrow Wilson Woody Woodrow Wilson Woody Guthrie stood virtually alone. From Guthrie’s find moment in 1977 until 1999 only one other woman, Lyn St. James, qualified for Indy’s 33-car start power system No more than two women were entered in any five hundred from 2000-06. Now those Book of Numbers are rapidly changing.

This year’s potency female start motor at Indy? consist of  Danica Patrick, the first woman to win an IndyCar race;  Sarah Fisher, the first woman to win an IndyCar pole; fan favourite Milka Duno and two relatively unknown region but promising rookies, Brazil’s Ana Beatriz and Switzerland’s Simona DE Silvestro. entrant Beatriz has raced on Indy’s historic 2.5-mile ellipse previously, as part of IndyCar’s developmental series and she was the highest finishing cub and the highest finishing woman in her IndyCar first appearance at this year’s season-opener in Brasil If each make the May 30 field, information technology would score the first time any has been part of a race featuring fivesome women.

While fan and official welcome the inflow of women. the times haven’t always been so cordial When Woody Woodrow Wilson Woody Woodrow Wilson Guthrie started her pursuance to qualify at Indy, she became the target of a letter-writing run to keep her out Guthrie’s calm, eloquent demeanor helped halt those arguments, even though it wasn’t until 2001 that fisher noticed daddy start to bring their daughter to the track.

Four years later, Saint Saint St. Patrick joined the electrical circuit and her emergence changed the athletics again. After a fourth-place finish at Indy in 2005, the interrogation were no longer about whether Saint Saint St. Patrick belonged in IndyCars but how long it would take her to win.  Saint Saint St. Patrick has been one of the series most popular drivers since that race, and her success had a huge impact for future coevals of women. patron that once backed away from Woody Woodrow Wilson Woody Guthrie saw the obvious marketability of having Saint Saint Patrick pitch their product and started lining up to get on Patrick’s team.

The 72-year-old Woody Woodrow Wilson Guthrie never doubted this day would come when women would be an integral part of racing She just wasn’t sure she’d be around long enough to see it. What Woody Woodrow Wilson Guthrie the like most, though, is visual perception a whole new generation of women drivers doing their thing, their way.

“I’m perfectly delighted, especially with Ana and Simona because they’ve both shown terrific talent in the lower degree and they deserve a chance at the top spot,” Woody Guthrie said. “Having five women start at Indy? That would be spectacular I’d love it.”

Rain has delayed pattern for the five hundred this week and cub drivers, such as Simona DE Silvestro and Ana Beatriz, had about only one of their scheduled four hours of pattern last weekend.  More rain is expected which would leave driver with only three full days of pattern before qualifying Menachem Begin Saturday.

The race is a go for May 30th so check back to see which women are at the start line Their success getting to this point is another victory lap in a athletics long controlled by men.
