With the Indianapolis D race just completed, there’s no question that its most famous participant was Danica Patrick.Patrick has had a rocky calendar month and her season took an unexpected turn yesterday, when the IndyCar Series’ most popular driver was booed when she threw her race crew under the jitney after a badness modification round.
But the star driver bounced back and Patrick’s tough week at the brickfield ended with cheers instead of boos. She shook off the poor people qualifying run and a somewhat poor-handling car to coating sixth in today’s Indy 500, what would have been her second consecutive top-five finishing at the 2.5-mile oval. She kept her cool, had a sweetie public presentation workings her way from the back of the pack, worked with her crew to pickle a badness handling car and stayed in the race until the very end.
A crowd estimated at over 300,000 fan watched the event in sweltering 95 level heat.
Dario Franchitti won the race his second at the speedway and the Scots driver becomes the eighth to have multiple win at the Indy 500.
A record four women qualified for today’s race.
